Irian Jaya was formerly West New Guinea and West Irian, province in eastern Indonesia, on the western half of the island of New Guinea. Irian Jaya is bordered on the north by the Pacific Ocean, on the west by the Ceram Sea, on the south by the Arafura Sea, and on the east by Papua New Guinea.
