HISTORY:
The name Aer Lingus is an anglicisation of the Irish Aer Loingeas, meaning Air Fleet. Under the provisions of the Air Companies, Aer Lingus and Aer Lingus Shannon. The former operates intra-European air services and the latter operates transatlantic flights. Aer Lingus Commuter was set up in May 1984 to provide services between points in Ireland and the UK with regional aircraft, but was merged into the mainline operation on February 2001.
